Every parent wants their child to
do well in school, AND behave at home. Every parent wants an
internal confidence in their child that helps them stand strong against
negative peer pressure that seems to hit kids at a younger and younger
age each year. Wouldn’t it be great to have a secret weapon that
could be with your child at all times and help them through all of life’s
challenges? Karate is your child’s secret weapon.
At
Metro Martial Arts & Fitness
your child will learn to kick, punch, and block. But all of the kicking
and punching is just a vehicle for much more important life lessons.
I mean, I can teach a five year-old how to break a board in about five
minutes. So what? I’m more concerned with helping them break down
fear and mediocrity and negativity. Aren’t you?
The truth is that the likelihood of a child being
attacked physically is small.
But kids are being attacked nevertheless:
• fast-food marketing giants
wage a constant assault;
• violence and conflict is glorified through the media;
and
• peer pressure to try drugs and alcohol is
something pretty much every child will have to face.
Instead of the neighborhood bully, I’m more
concerned with the drive-thru at McDonald’s. Instead of a kidnapping,
I’m more concerned with erosion of attention span caused by hyper-exposure
to video games. And instead of a criminal attack, I’m more concerned
with the apathy and low self esteem that results from getting caught
up in our modern day instant-gratification “disposable”
society. I'm betting you agree.
You might be wondering, “How is
learning to kick and punch going to protect my child against these ‘non-violent’
forms of attack?” Here’s how: throughout history proper
instruction in the combat arts has always involved a strong
element of character development. From the samurai of Japan
to the knights of Europe, themes of integrity, commitment, focus, discipline,
and service have always coexisted with the development of the physical
skills of self defense. At Metro Martial Arts
& Fitness we continue this tradition by instilling positive
character traits in our students and teaching top quality physical martial
arts skills.
